Help the SLT Endowment: A land trust takes on the responsibility to legally and physically protect in perpetuity their easements and the land they own. But forever is a long, long time. Since we don’t know what the future holds, the board of the land trust has voted to establish an Endowment Fund, built on an initial bequest of $300,000 from longtime SLT supporter Garrett Goodbody. The land trust has set a goal of $1 million for our endowment. It may take many years for us to reach that goal. But, like all our objectives, it will only happen through the financial support and concern of local residents. For more details on the Endowment, click here.

Consider Planned Giving: According to the Connecticut Leave a Legacy organization, while 72 percent of all Americans support the work of charities annually, only 5.7 percent remember nonprofit organizations in their estate plans. When asked why this gap exists, most people say it is because they have not been asked or have not thought about it. Planned giving to the Sharon Land Trust is a way to work with your attorney, accountant or financial advisor to support a cause which you care about in your estate plans, and to leave behind a gift which lasts forever.
Planned giving may take the form of:
- Outright gifts
- Bequests in a Will
- Beneficiary of Retirement Plan Assets
- Beneficiary and/or Owner of an Existing Life Insurance Policy
In addition, there are other options which tend to be more complex, including:
- Life Income Gift
- Charitable Remainder Trusts
- Charitable Lead Trusts
